The Power of Brand

My announcement on Wednesday was published in several places, including about a half-dozen which syndicate Business Wire and Venture Wire press releases.

With each repost I got a Google alert, clicked through to check it out, and the moved on. Who cares about a press release reblogs? Not me — I care about authenticity, right?

Evidently, I also care about Brand. Seems that CNBC also re-posts Business Wire releases, and when I clicked through my Google Alert today I got a twinge of excitement just to see my name on CNBC’s site.

Brands are powerful. The good ones are magic. It’s like Charisma.

We had 5 minutes but we didn’t need it all, I think we stopped at 4:30. Either way it was nice to talk about Neighborhoodr to such a welcoming group and present alongside some other really amazing companies.

You guys did a great job. Neighborhoodr is the future. The Lower East Side is the Future.

Yesterday, Chris Dixon announced on his blog (http://cdixon.org) the formation of Founders Collective, a $40 million seed stage fund. I have known about Founders Collective for some time and am excited about the launch. I have written on several previous occasions that there is never enough seed capital available, so it is great that they are targeting this need. Even better though is that the money comes with the advice of a really great group of founders who can provide tremendous value beyond their capital (in addition to Chris, the group includes Mark Gerson, Caterina Fake and several other impressive folks). While they will be active nation wide, their focus will be on the East Coast and especially New York. This is a great addition for the city. Welcome!

Mark Gerson was one of the first angels to back blip. Chris Dixon and Caterina Fake are obviously top notch. This is a fantastic addition to the city.

5 examples of why putting a number in the first two words of your post and creating brain-numbing lists is the key to blogging success.

Each of these posts is also a pageview-generating slideshow that makes ad sales types (like me) extremely happy. Not so awesome for the content consumer who is annoyed by the developing symptoms of carpal tunnel from repeated clicking. See also this tweet from Friday re: alleyinsider’s increasing use of slideshows and Dan Frommer’s reply.

Makes an ad sales person happy, but it should make the ad buyer wary, right? If I’m being sold SAI and Business Insider traffic, I’m probably being sold “executives and managers, large budget buying decision-makers, startups, etc.”

Well, let me tell you something: those 375k people who looked at the Google interview questions are not that demographic. Those people were just clicking on get-rich-quick ads an hour ago and just made your ad buy a stupid decision.

I’ve loved SAI from Day 1 — and occasionally enjoy a slideshow or two — but isn’t this the Zynga/Affiliate version for the online newspaper?
