Picturelife now supports Video

Videos are just as important as pictures at Picturelife!

The memories of your life are recorded not just by the pictures you take, but also videos. Storing all your personal digital media, keeping it private and safe is our mission, so supporting video has always been at the top of our list.

Getting your video into Picturelife is easy

Picturelife will store your original videos, no matter the length or size, from 10 second video on your iPhone to a 30 minute 1080p video on a digital SLR. You can easily upload your videos to Picturelife on Picturelife for Mac and by drag and dropping video files to Picturelife on the Web. We will be adding support for Windows, iOS, and linked accounts soon.

Watching videos on Picturelife

Videos appear in the web app just as regular pictures do. You can tell its a video by the video icon in the upper right hand corner of the thumbnail. Just double click it, and start watching.

Sharing a video privately with a friend

Sometimes you might want to share a video with just a few friends privately. This is super easy to do. Just click on the video or videos, and click send. Then type in the email of your friends and click send. They will be sent a private link to view the video that only they can see.

Making a video public

If you want to share the video on Twitter or Facebook, just click the video, click info, and press the Facebook or Twitter button. You can also click the link button to create a link to send to your friends.

Pro tip

If you want to see all your videos on Picturelife, just click here, or go to the app, click on search, and type: “media_type:Video” and it will show you all of them.

Im glad he has decided to take up writing publicly again.

He starts off by giving the short/long version of how he got started creating stuff.

Help us make NYC the best city for tech in the world!

In times of crisis, the NY Tech Meetup has played an important role activating members of our community to get involved and take action. The results, as in the cases of the SOPA/PIPA debates and with the relief efforts in the wake of Sandy, were actions that had enormous positive impact on our city.

But times of crisis shouldn’t be the only time our community gets involved in making our city work better. With New York City elections taking place later this year for Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate, Borough Presidents, and City Council seats, we have an opportunity to engage in discussion and debate about what policy issues are most important, not just for people working in technology, but also for people enabled by technology.

To that end, we’ve committed to amplifying the voices and ideas of the members of the NY tech community by inviting you to participate in conversations around the policies that are most important to you. The results of these conversations will be brought to the attention of the candidates running for public office and will be the starting point of dialogue at candidates’ forums we will host in the spring for the citywide offices of Mayor, Comptroller, and Public Advocate.

It’s hard to overestimate the importance of the opportunity ahead of us - the policies implemented by public officials going forward will have a profound effect on the city’s future, so by doing our part to ensure the candidates are well-informed and are committed to implementing sound policies, we’ll have played a significant role in helping make a better NYC for everyone for a long time to come.

The board of the NY Tech Meetup has prepared a list of key issues we believe represent some of the most important areas of focus. We see this as a starting point; it’s up to you to help determine which of these issues, and which other issues, are important to you and to the rest of the city.

You can help in this process by participating in one or all of the following three key ways:

Review, Vote On and Add to the Policy Goals:
Today, we’re launching an online platform to discuss each of the issues. Each policy goal (noted below) is listed as a separate item so you can vote it up, vote it down, or add your own. Sound off! http://nytechmeetup.ideascale.com

Organize a Public Policy Meetup:
If you want to organize an event around one or several of these topics, we want to help you make it happen. Suggest a meetup here.

Invite your friends, neighbors, colleagues, and social media contacts to participate too! If more people are involved in the conversation then more ideas and potential support can be achieved. We have created a special hashtag for this process: #NYTMVote

Here are the initial policy goals and ideas that the NY Tech Meetup Board of Directors believes constitutes a starting point for the conversation about how to advance the future of New York:

Make New York City the most wired city on earth by providing every New Yorker and every New York business regardless of location access to the fastest broadband networks at the lowest cost.

Reinvent the education system to allow every child, young adult, and all New Yorkers to develop the skills necessary to thrive in a 21st century economy.

Make New York City the clear choice for entrepreneurs, software engineers, and other technically skilled professionals to start a business and build a career by making it easy to find partners, financing, office space and housing, employees, and access to markets.

Support the appointment of a Deputy Mayor for Technology Innovation with an appropriate budget charged with the responsibility of reinventing New York City government with a 21st century framework.

Make New York City’s system for civic participation the most open, transparent, accountable, participatory, and innovative in the world.

Make New York City the most citizen-connected community on earth, where its people connect with each other to unleash a powerful 21st century economy: selling to each other, renting to each other, funding each other, sharing with each other, coworking with each other, meeting up with each other, and hiring each other.

Support public policies that would ensure that technology and the opportunities available to the tech community can reach all New York’s citizens, and help solve issues related to healthcare, human rights and justice, gender equality, transportation, the environment, and other issues of fundamental importance to all New Yorkers.

Let’s make the future of New York City better together!

Thank you,

NY Tech Meetup Board of Directors

I know I post these every so often, but today we announced that we’ve raised a $9 million Series A. This is a big number and what it means most is that Percolate is very much hiring. We’re pretty much hiring across the board, but here’s a quick rundown of the current open positions on the site:

Account Executive: This is the title we have for our more senior sellers. The job is about getting in front of Fortune 500 brands and helping them understand the value of Percolate.

Played around with Ruby’s Range class this morning (working on adding some better SmartAlbums), and never having used Range for Strings, I was excited to find this:

We’re excited to announce the newest addition to the Picturelife family of apps: Picturelife for Android, with support for all Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and up (v4.0+)!

The Android app is a lightweight picture syncing tool that allows new users to sign up for a free…

Got Android? Get Picturelife.

Picturelife

caterpillarcowboy:

nabeel:

You would think the story of how Spark came to be investing in Picturelife would be simple enough. After all the Founder, Charles Forman, was also the founder of OMGPOP, another Spark portfolio company. But actually Charles had been keeping a low profile with his new gig, so it initially came to our attention in the best way possible, as a user.

…

In Flickr’s place was Instagram and Facebook. They are wonderful experiences, but they are communication mediums for the 1% of photos worth sharing. What about the other 99%? iCloud was great but I want more than the last 1,000 photos on my device, I want all of them, and shareable to the services I care about like Tumblr and Twitter without hurdles. Google, and Microsoft had solutions of course, but they seemed more obsessed with locking you into their platforms than creating new experiences.

Finally the team at Picturelife let us in on their project. I was hooked. Hooked on the product, on the vision for where it was headed, and hooked on the team.

…

“Instagram and Facebook. They are wonderful experiences, but they are communication mediums for the 1% of photos worth sharing. What about the other 99%?”

Why is the other 99% worth anything? In an era where film is free, you’d expect the ratio of “good” photos to “bad” photos to approach 1%:99%.

I can only tell you my personal story:

A few years ago, I tragically lost my best friend.

Today, I have every single photo he and I ever took together. Some of them were “share” worthy… those were mostly shots at museums in Spain when we traveled there after high school.

Most, though, would have never been shared. They are the 99%. Photographically terrible photos. But today, they are how I relive the too-short time I spent with him. They’re the photos I cry to.

Those sloppy photos are where the real memories live. Our challenge at Picturelife is helping you live with all those photos. How to uncover old ones and good one. Help you deal with owning tens of thousands of photos that have the potential to make no one cry but you.
