A little perspective if you will….
This was what GuestofaGuest looked like in May of ‘07 (Compared to what it looks like now.) None of you probably know this because none of you were reading it then. I was writing it under the alias of Holly Golightly while simultaneously working fulltime + for a billionaire on the top of
the worldthe GM Building.Let me start over. Tonight I got anxious. Again. I want to do so much with this site. With this city, and the next city and the next, and then the next after that. I want videos, I want a 24 hr feed, I want a marketplace, and a newsletter that reaches millions. I want to be innovative and fresh. I want, I want, I want.
I find that the more I think about what I want to do, the less I get done. Which is why, after hanging up the phone with my dad just now, and discussing the trials and tribulations of a startup that has founders with big eyes, and (sometimes) impatient days; I decided to go and take a look at where we came from. Put things in perspective if you will….
- One of our first posts on “Miriam” the girl door at the just opened box who we dubbed as “The Most Powerful Woman In Manhattan.” Insert Lyz from the Jane Hotel in for Miriam and this post could be just as relevant today
- Here’s one called “Guess the Mortimer” with a revealing photo of the tins? or the dabs? at Ciprianis. We’ll never tell who but Tinsley just got a reality TV show…over 2 years later.
- And, one of my all time favorites: “Everything you need to know: The Guido.” Still a top hit post every now and then…as guidos are certainly still around.
This was the first summer the site started as, a true hobby (I didn’t quit my job to take this hobby full time until may ‘08). And some of the posts are just incredibly fun to go back and read. We have switched over almost all of these posts to our current url (away from this wordpress address), but I decided to link them to the old archived versions. I am proud of where we have come.
So I guess my point is that cliched idea that Rome wasn’t built overnight. It took days and days to get to where we are now. But my 2 year younger self, the one that wrote those posts above? I am confident she would be smiling if at that moment in time, the moment she was up late at night writing about this city and it’s charms after a long day of work, she could see what this “hobby” looked like today.
I am going to remember this tonight and then tomorrow, and then the day after that, and the one after that, and the hundreds more to follow. We, (god just thinking of the fact that WE have a STAFF now is incredible), will accomplish all of our dreams someday, and we will look back on this moment and smile, just like I did tonight.
